A tankless water heater won't give you hot water on demand. It merely supplies you with a pretty-much endless supply of hot water. I had mine installed 2 years ago, and it cost me about $500 for installation. But mine is gas, and that included some larger copper pipes for the gas line.
Hot water on demand is a separate unit which installs under your sink or at least very close to your hot water supply line for the place you want the instant hot water. I saw one just yesterday at Costco for less than $200. Installation wouldn't be any more than installing a garbage disposal. The unit itself was about the size of a grapefruit.
